Academy9 is an exciting, evolving educational initiative from Transport Scotland, linked to the Scottish Government's ambitious A9 Dualling Programme.
Launched in 2015, the Academy9 educational framework is based on knowledge exchange at all levels, promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and employment opportunities for future generations, recognising the power of partnerships between education and industry, and the desire to leave a legacy of STEM learning and achievement for all.
The Academy9 educational framework is built on a series of progressive activities for pupils and is firmly based in challenge learning.
It is led by Education Liaison Officers and industry professionals, providing pupils with the opportunity to learn directly from those actively working in STEM-related careers.
Academy9 offers its services “from 3 to PhD” and to date, events have been held in nursery school, college and university in addition to the main audience of primary and secondary pupils throughout the A9 Dualling corridor.
"Dualling the A9 represents the largest, and one of the most challenging infrastructure projects in Scotland's history...Through this pioneering initiative it is also an investment in the next generation of engineers, designers and construction workers"
~ Keith Brown, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, speaking at the launch of Academy9 in August 2015.
